Transition To Critical Chain Multi-Project Management

Before going for the methodologies and development, you must know all about the Critical Chain Project Management. Prof. Siddesh K.Rai has described the Critical Chain Method in his journal published in International Journal and Magazine of Engineering, Technology, Management and Research very precisely and comprehensively. He describes CCPM or Critical Chain Project Management as a set of methodology that involves devising and execution of projects effectively by putting importance on the managing, planning and ultimately completion of the project accurately. This is a relatively newer method of project execution introduced by Eliyahu M. Goldratt in the year 1997.

In his book, ‘Critical Chain' he gives a detailed picture of the methodology and the process, which instantly became a massive success in every project management organizational task. After its widespread usage, it has been observed that, with this new methodology, you can finish your job at least 10 percent to a maximum of 50 percent faster than the erstwhile PERT and Critical Path Method.  To know more about the fundamentals and methodologies of project management, check out PMP training and certification.

Contrasting PERT and Critical Path Method with Critical Chain Multi-Management
In the earlier method, the schedule was rigid, and the order was emphasized with the task manager. The main motto of the Critical Chain Multi-Project Management is to level up the resources that are upped and leveled correctly and the time for both beginning and the end is flexible. In the beginning, when the project manager made use of the older project management methods, at that time about 30 percent of the time allotted was wasted with the issue and the incorrect techniques like Syndrome by the students, not a prioritization of the matter and irregular methods of multi-tasking.  The project management involves a chain of the task manager that consists of that continuity that is preference and stratagem clinging on to the element of the terminal that filters the project that is used to complete the project within a shorter period of the time-limit.

The pictorial representation of the difference between Critical Path Method with Critical Chain Multi-Management is shown in the below figure.

Some features are eminent for the handling of the project and also the way they can use those to distinguish between the critical path method and critical chain multi-management are:

    • The implicit idea and purpose of the resource dependency that is actually not included in the traditional process of project methodology. The execution of the network of the project is identified employing the requirement from the plethora of resources.
    • In the traditional method, there were no options to search for flawless elucidation. But in the newer process, you can opt for the numerous flawless clarifications by presenting the right balance in the simplification of the optimum results and not so optimum results.

The critical points of CCPM and its identification of the buffers

There are some kinds of barriers that are involved in the execution of suck project following the current methodology. The identification and inception of the buffers include Feeding, Project, Resource and much more buffers that are adeptly identified ensuring the accurate and efficient completion of the project with a reasonable outcome. The place for the project involves that the all the buffers mentioned above and the mismanagement that was said in the previously discussed part is to be eliminated deftly. Because the Critical Chain Management makes use of the management of the buffer instead of earned value management. The obtained value management is cumbersome to use. This is because some of the managers opine that earned value management could not differentiate between the progressions of the project in the critical path to the progress of the project from the track of the other resource point.

The real-time scenario of the application of Critical Chain Multi-Project Management

To observe the implementation of the CCPM in real time scenario, a study was conducted among the companies of the developing country of Brazil, who have implemented this methodology. The study also gave a clear understanding of the management of the program, control in the multiple project scenarios, management of a portfolio that is positioned against the CCPM. The methodology is observed deftly to provide the solution of the algorithm and the identification of the characteristics that are mathematically reliable and compatible with the concern. In this on-field research, it has been observed that the Viable Vision managerial conduct is governed by six principles.

The beginning and execution of project via CCPM is illustrated in the figure below.

Among the six, three of them were involved in the total success as they were able to govern the project in the multi-tasking environment in a precise manner. They also reduced the chance of the cumbersome procedures, massive consumption of time, mismatched methods with adequate planning and ultimate execution much before the estimated time. The CCPM also encouraged the performance improvement among the employees who were involved in the project organization, and the various resource points were managed continually leading to the overall development of the managerial decisions of the organization. It has also been observed that there was an increase in the revenue and the profit on the part of the business and trade footing of the company than its competitor who was still using traditional PERT and critical path methodology. A detailed audio-visual representation of the scenario can be found in

    Successful implementation of CCPM

As Eliyahu M. Goldratt says in his book, ‘Critical Chain,' "If you are like nearly everyone else in this world, you have accepted so many things without question that you're not thinking at all."
He also says that "Your Company's goal is to make money or it's not in business."

Several industries are making use of the CCPM. Some of them are- building and construction, media and marketing, pharmaceutical manufacturers, automobiles, IT Industry and research, marketing and sales, telecommunications, aeronautical research and many more.

The best thing about CCPM is that you can make the application in almost any kind of industry. It does not matter whether your business is small-scale or large-scale. Every business and industrial plan needs active management and strategy that is required for the organizational growth. The CCPM with its uniformity, compactness, and effectiveness could be the next best thing for the successful management of the regulatory projects.
