ITIL is the most popular IT service management framework today. It has been around for a while and is being adopted by IT organizations of every size and industry. ITIL version 4.0 was released in September 2016, making it the latest version of this popular framework.
The demand for the ITIL certification badge has increased over the years as more organizations have started looking at it as an indicator of dedication to IT service management principles. This article will cover everything you need to know about ITIL digital badges and how you can get them to validate your knowledge of this increasingly valuable standard.
ITIL 4 Digital Badges
Digital ITIL badges are a great way to show how knowledgeable you are. They can also help build your reputation, which is important if you’re looking for a new job or promotion.
There are two main ways that companies use digital ITIL badges: to demonstrate knowledge of a particular topic and as a form of employee recognition. Digital ITIL badges can be used for both purposes.
1. ITIL 4 ® Foundation
A good working knowledge of the basics of programming, such as how to create a basic program in a programming language and what the different parts of a program are.
- Learning how to use a programming editor and editor plugins to help with writing code. This can be done through free online resources or paid courses.
- Becoming familiarized with the environment and tools you will be working in during your career. This can include understanding OSX, Linux, Windows, Terminal, and other tools you may use when developing software.
- Becoming familiar with the various IDEs (integrated development environments) that exist today and knowing which one is best suited for your project.

2. ITIL® Foundation
The ITIL® Foundation Badge course shows that the individual truly understands the key ideas of IT and digital services delivery, specifically the key ideas, guiding principles and approaches of ITIL 4 for facility management. The modern organization's end-to-end operating model for technology-enabled goods and services creation, distribution and improvement are understood in detail. Cultural or behavioral principles are advantageous to the entire group.
The end-to-end process of service delivery, from requirements gathering to the customer's delighted experience, is understood in detail. The individual has engaged in activities such as reading, researching, team-building exercises and project work to build their knowledge of a topic. This is a critical step in the journey to take on the next ITIL training level.
3. ITIL® Intermediate CPD
Continuing professional development (CPD) is a process of learning and improving skills throughout one's career. CPD can be formal or informal and can be done on one's own or in a group setting. CPD should always be aligned with your personal goals and your organization's needs.
CPD can take many forms: lectures, workshops, online courses, mentorship, training from an industry expert, etc. Most importantly, you are taking action to improve your skills and knowledge.
If you are looking for ways to invest in yourself and grow as a professional, CPD is an excellent way to do so. In addition to helping you develop skills that will be valuable to you in the future, CPD can also help you build relationships with other professionals who can provide you with new opportunities.
4. ITIL 4 ® Managing Professional
Managing Professional (MPS) is the highest grade of ITIL qualification. An MPS qualification is considered a highly sought-after industry ITIL certification and can be used as proof of technical competence in IT Service Management.
The MPS qualification level is equivalent to achieving an Associate’s Degree in any subject area and is eligible for government-backed professional development subsidies.
An MPS qualification is typically acquired through a combination of classroom training and experience working in IT service management roles. This includes gaining relevant experience either through internships or volunteering for relevant organizations with best IT Service Management courses. The ITIL Intermediate certificate (ITILv2) may also be offered as an alternative route to certification.
5. ITIL® Expert CPD
The ITIL® Expert Certificate Program is a non-accredited certification that shows you have a deep understanding of ITIL® principles and practices. ITIL® is an internationally recognized best practice framework that provides a proven process for managing the lifecycle of IT services. The ITIL® Expert Certificate program is designed for IT professionals who want to be recognized as experts in the field.
- ITIL® certification demonstrates that you deeply understand the principles and practices defined by the ITIL framework, including ITSM (IT Service Management).
- Each level of certification has distinct requirements. The first level, Foundation Level, requires candidates to demonstrate basic knowledge of ITIL concepts and practices. The second level, Intermediate Level, requires candidates to demonstrate intermediate knowledge of the principles and practices defined by ITIL. The third level, the Expert Level, requires candidates to demonstrate advanced knowledge of the principles and practices defined by ITIL.
6. ITIL 4 ® STRATEGIST: Direct, Plan and Improve
ITIL 4 ® STRATEGIST is the fourth edition of the ITIL V3 framework, which extends the ITIL V3 framework to provide a complete suite of services for service management. ITIL 4 is an agile and structured approach to service management that helps organizations reliably deliver services faster and with less effort at a lower cost. ITIL 4 provides a holistic framework for all aspects of service management, from planning and delivery to service quality management.
- As part of its goal to help organizations deliver more reliable and cost-effective services, ITIL 4 emphasizes collaboration and teamwork across all stakeholder groups. By working together, stakeholders can reduce the risk of failure, increase efficiency and build customer loyalty. ITIL 4 also includes guided practices that help organizations build strong processes and tools to support these goals.
- ITIL 4 STRATEGIST provides a practical guide to leading Service Management in an organization by developing and implementing best practices aligned with current business needs.
7. ITIL 4 ® SPECIALIST: Create, Deliver and Support
The ITIL® Method is a proven process for managing IT Service and Service Delivery, and it's a framework for systematically tackling the challenges of delivering services, including people, processes and technology.
There are three core processes: Service Strategy, Service Design and Service Operations. These processes are supported by four supporting processes: Service Transition, Change Management, Release Management and Continual Improvement.
- ITIL 4 ® Specialist is a complementary certification to ITIL 3 ® Intermediate or ITIL 3 ® Expert.
- The ITIL 4 ® Specialist certification provides users with an in-depth understanding of the ITIL methodologies, tools and best practices.
- This certification is ideal for experienced IT professionals who want to further their knowledge in the service management domain.
8. ITIL 4 ® SPECIALIST: Drive Stakeholder Value
Stakeholder Value (SV) is a key concept in the ITIL 4 methodology. It is defined as the sum total of all benefits delivered to the stakeholders of an organization. The SV metric helps measure the success of an organization by measuring how much value it delivers to its stakeholders. For example, if a company’s SV increases, it can be taken as a sign that the organization is delivering value to its customers and stakeholders.
It is important to understand that there are several different types of SV metrics:
- Benefit SV - This metric measures how much value the organization delivers to its customers.
- Stakeholder SV - This metric measures how much value the organization delivers to its stakeholders.
- Overall SV - This metric combines both benefit and stakeholder SV metrics into one overall score.
In addition, there are several ways to calculate SV:
- Cost-benefit analysis - Simply put, this is a way for companies to analyze their costs and benefits against one another, to gain some insight as to whether or not they are truly delivering value for their customers.
- Value-added analysis - This simply involves looking at the costs and benefits of an individual product or service against those of comparable products or services to gauge whether or not they are adding value - again, intending to gain insight as to whether or not they are truly delivering value for their customers.
9. ITIL 4 ® SPECIALIST: High-Velocity IT
High Velocity IT is a specialist ITIL® consulting firm providing end-to-end ITIL® services to a range of clients in the UK and overseas. The team at High Velocity IT has vast experience in all areas of ITIL, with a particular focus on high-velocity change management and business transformation.
There are three core components to High Velocity IT’s service offering: consulting, training and support.
- Each of these is designed to deliver the best results for its respective target audience. 10. ITIL 4 ® LEADER Digital and IT Strategy
ITIL 4 ® LEADER® Digital and IT strategy is a comprehensive framework for managing the entire lifecycle of Technology, including planning, strategy, architecture, operations, management and maintenance. It provides a systematic approach to modernizing digital technology while enhancing business agility.
It is an essential component of any ITIL Framework implementation and a must-have for any organization that wants to ensure that their data is protected, that systems are reliable and secure and that they can continue to deliver their core services to customers.
In short, it is a way of ensuring that your organization is prepared for the changes in the world of technology and because it provides a complete framework for evaluating, planning, implementing and maintaining technology solutions that are designed to help organizations grow.
11. ITIL 4 ® Strategic Leader
The ITIL 4 Strategic Leader is the person who has taken charge of the organization and is responsible for the overall direction and success of the company. The role of the Strategic Leader is to oversee all aspects of the business, from strategy, operations and growth to marketing, finance and HR. They are responsible for setting the vision for the company, choosing and recruiting key people, and ensuring that all of these elements are moving in the right direction. It’s important to have a clear idea of your goals to ensure they are being met, but it’s also important not to get too bogged down in details.
The main focus of a Strategic Leader should be on taking care of business as usual: ensuring that everything is running smoothly, that problems are being dealt with quickly, and so on.
When you’re dealing with larger organizations, this can be a full-time job, but it’s also essential to take time out every now and then to reflect on how things are going and make adjustments where necessary.
12. ITIL® Practitioner CPD
Practitioner CPD is continuing professional development (CPD) that can be used to increase your knowledge and skills. CPD can be used by healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and psychologists.
CPD can take many forms, from in-person workshops to online courses. It’s important to choose a CPD that is relevant to your career and area of expertise. In addition to providing continuing professional development opportunities, CPD can also help you build your personal brand.
- Start by researching the various types of CPD on offer. Make sure you pick the right CPD for your needs. Then choose a session that fits into your schedule and budget. Once you’ve decided on a session, register online so you’re not left out in the cold if something comes up last minute. You may also want to consider registering for multiple sessions, if possible, as this will help keep you motivated throughout the year!
- It enables us to engage in peer-to-peer learning, encouraging everyone involved to share knowledge and develop their practice. CPD is a key part of our commitment to continual professional development. As we continue to evolve and grow, the knowledge we share with each other will help us to remain relevant and up-to-date.
- By undertaking CPD, you can expand your knowledge base, build on existing skills, and develop new ones. You will also be able to network with colleagues and peers, which will give you invaluable insight into the industry as a whole.
13. ITIL Maturity Model Assessor
The maturity model assesses the maturity of a project from inception through delivery. It defines many stakeholders, including the owner, the sponsor, the team, and others. It also defines key performance indicators (KPIs) that guide success. The maturity model often establishes project constraints, such as budget and timeline. It is also used to define milestones and deliverables along the way. The model can be generated quickly and easily with minimal guesswork by leveraging critical path analysis with data visualization tools.

How to get the ITIL 4 Foundation Digital Badge
1. Register for your ITIL 4 exam
ITIL 4 is the next version of the ITIL framework that encompasses all the previous versions. ITIL 4 is designed to be compatible with other frameworks, such as CMMI and ISO 50001, so you can use ITIL 4 for your compliance needs. The KnowledgeHut’s ITIL 4 Foundation Certification is required to become certified in ITIL 4.
To register for your ITIL 4 exam, you’ll need to take the following steps:
- Register for a credential verification process by visiting www.itilcredentials.org.
- Complete the credential verification process and receive an email confirming that your application is complete.
- Once verification is complete, you will receive an invitation to register for your exam.
- To register for your exam, you’ll need to submit payment information via a secure website using a credit card or PayPal account.
2. Passing your exam
Passing the ITIL 4 exam is the first step in becoming certified as an ITIL practitioner. You need to pass a multiple-choice quiz and demonstrate that you're knowledgeable about the ITIL process. The ITIL 4 exam is offered every year by the International Institute of IT Service Management (i-ITSM). Like other certification exams, the ITIL 4 exam tests your knowledge of both technical and non-technical subjects.
- The ITIL 4 exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you need to score at least 70%.
- After taking the test, you'll receive your certificate via email within two weeks.
- To be eligible for this certification, you must have received your ITIL 3 certification at least one year prior to taking the ITIL 4 exam.
3. Acquire Badges
ITIL4 certification is the go-to certification for IT professionals who want to prove their understanding of ITIL service management best practices. ITIL 4 certification is a must if you want to be considered a certified professional in your industry. ITIL 4 certification proves that you have a good knowledge of how IT services and systems work. The ITIL 4 exam covers the main concepts and practices of ITIL service management. Candidates can expect to learn key concepts, such as Total Quality Management (TQM), Business Process Improvement (BPI), and Service Design.
To become ITIL certified, you must pass two exams: the Foundation Certificate and one of the Practitioners or Expert Level Exams. To get certified, candidates must pass both exams with at least 80% marks each, but passing just one exam is enough to earn an official certificate from recognized bodies. There are three different types of ITIL badges that can be earned through the certification program: Expert (ITIL 3), Intermediate (ITIL 4), and Senior (ITIL 5).
4. Adding on LinkedIn
A LinkedIn badge of an ITIL certification is a great way to display your skills and credentials. These ITIL badges are increasingly popular, with over 8 million available. You can add a LinkedIn ITIL badge by creating a page that contains the LinkedIn badge icon, along with your name and picture. Then you can use the page to promote yourself and your skills.
- By adding a LinkedIn ITIL badge to your profile, you’re letting others know that you’re a qualified ITIL practitioner. This will make them more likely to invite you for interviews or consider hiring you.
- Another benefit of adding a LinkedIn ITIL badge is that it shows off your professional status to other LinkedIn users. For example, it might encourage them to click through to your profile from their newsfeed or contact list.
Conclusion
The ITIL is a core set of best practices for IT Service Management developed by The IT Governance Institute (TGI). ITIL is not a single standard, but a set of related certifications described previously. A good understanding of ITIL and its related certifications is important for IT Service Management professionals, especially those working with complex IT environments.
It's a way of thinking that enables you to take a 360-degree view of your business and come up with ideas and solutions that will help it improve. ITIL is not a one size fits all approach, and the standards and requirements vary depending on where you are in your business. In this article, we will look at what ITIL is, how it can be applied to your business, and how you can start applying it to your IT service delivery.
