    PRINCE2® Qualification

PRINCE2® qualification is the certificate you receive after passing the PRINCE2® Foundation or Practitioner exam.

PRINCE2® is a valuable qualification in the project management industry. PRINCE2® is a proven method for successful and timely delivery of quality projects.

There are two main levels of PRINCE2 6th edition certification:

The PRINCE2® Foundation allows students to learn about the basics and terminology of project management, making them capable of handling important matters and responsibilities in their organization.

    • You get the certificate immediately after completing training and passing the exam
    • It helps in developing project management skills

Both ITIL® and PRINCE2®are process-based and managed by AXELOS. However, both have different scopes. ITIL knowledge isn’t necessary for PRINCE2®, although PRINCE2® knowledge is required for ITIL.

        PRINCE2®

PRINCE2® stands for Projects In Controlled Environments. It is a globally recognized certificate that originates in the UK.

A method known as PROMPT II was adopted in the UK by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) in 1989. Originally the acronym PRINCE meant PROMPT II IN the CCTA Environment. Later, it started standing for Projects In Controlled Environments. In 1996, PRINCE2® was released as a generic project management method.

The specialized framework of PRINCE2® allows practicing and aspiring managers to carry out their projects within a given budget and allotted time. It contains 4 main elements; 7 principles, 7 themes, 7 processes and adaptation to the environment of the project.

Originating in the UK, PRINCE2® is used in both public and private sectors across different countries of the world.

Axelos is the governing body of PRINCE2® that conducts training and awards certification examinations.

There is no exact number, but statistics have shown over 450,000 PMI members, with more than 650,000 certified PMP professionals.

PRINCE2® methodology is a popular project management standard that is used and recognized in the UK and internationally.

There are four integrated elements in the PRINCE2® Framework, which  are Principles, Processes, Themes and project environment adaptation. The framework is built on the 7 principles, 7 themes and 7 processes

There are seven categories of PRINCE2® themes: organization, business case, plans, quality, change, risk, and progress. These themes provide insights on how to carry out projects for it to be result-oriented.

The 7 Themes of the PRINCE2® methodology are Business Case, Organisation, Plans, Quality, Change, Risk and Progress.

The 7 processes of PRINCE2® are:

        1. Starting Up a project (SU)
        2. Initiating a project (IP)
        3. Directing a project (DP)
        4. Controlling a Stage (CS)
        5. Managing Product Delivery (MP)
        6. Managing Stage Boundaries (SB)
        7. Closing a project (CP)

PRINCE2® is a well recognized project management that stipulates dividing of projects into controllable and manageable parts.

PRINCE2® methodology solves project management issues through identification of risks, threats and opportunities and determining the best response to these challenges.

The latest update of PRINCE2® was introduced by AXELOS in May 2017. This update is the first one since its 2009 launch. Some major changes include:

        • Meeting the requirements of organizations and project environments
        • Principles underpinning PRINCE2 have been given great importance
        • Connection within the themes and principles have been illuminated
        • ‘Themes’ guidance has been reconstructed for assisting particular models of tailoring
        • The rational utilization of the process and administration, with numerous suggestions, examples, and warnings
        • Certificate renewal through My PRINCE2.
        • The approach and reference cover every aspect of project management
        • Major focus on membership for level certification holders, allowing them to stay updated and maintain current relevance.

Constant feedback was collected from experts over the course of 8 years, which became one of the main reasons behind the PRINCE2 6th edition update.

For the past few years, Project Management has been a career option that is in great demand. Furthermore, as per PMI®, by 2027, 87.7 million project management roles will be required by employers.

Undertaking self-study for PRINCE2® Foundation and Practitioner exams require being disciplined and working on planned schedules.

PRINCE2® Foundation Certification is meant for beginners in the field of project management. It provides an understanding of the PRINCE2® system and methodology.

The PRINCE2® Practitioner is an advanced level of qualification for professionals who want to apply the PRINCE2® principles to a given project
